LINKIN PARK Vocalist Opening New Art Show This Weekend

July 11, 2008

According to The Pulse of Radio, LINKIN PARK vocalist Mike Shinoda will premiere his second art exhibition, titled Glorious Excess, on Saturday (July 12) at the George and Sakaye Aratani Central Hall of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The show, which features a series of new paintings and digital works, will run through August 3 and is the first of a two-part series. This follows Shinoda's first-ever exhibition, Diamond Spades Hearts Club, which took place in November of 2006 and displayed 23 of his paintings. Shinoda told The Pulse of Radio at the time why he was thrilled to have his own art show. "For me, to be able to put this stuff up on the wall, that pretty much every single person who's coming to this thing has no idea what they're walking into — like, nobody has seen all this work up at the same time in this way — I'm really excited about it," he said.

Some of the new exhibition's themes include celebrity life as well as contemporary society's fascination with fame, excess and instant gratification.

The exhibition is sponsored by DC Shoes, with additional support from the James Irvine Foundation. The opening also coincides with the release of Shinoda's new DC Remix Series shoe. All proceeds from sales of his artwork and footwear go toward the Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Shinoda will be at the gallery on Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a public reception and autograph session.

The second part of the series, Glorious Excess (Dies),will run at the National Museum from January 24 through March 22, 2009.

LINKIN PARK kicks off its latest edition of the Projekt Revolution tour next Wednesday (July 16) in Boston.
